TIJI FESTIVAL - MAY 2016
An annual 3 days ritual held at the end of the dry season (after winter and spring) when it's full moon (normally in May).
Tiji is a story about the god Dorje Jono who has to fight his demon father to save the Mustang Kingdom from destruction. Destruction caused by the demon by creating draught which in this very dry landscape would be a catastrophe. The festivities center upon the Dorjo Jono character and his "crew" of fiercely costumed dancers (all munks) performing a series of 52 magical dances during the 3 days.
